2010 Benefactor Awards
Information

Each year, CRD recognizes the outstanding contributions of ten donors who have made a difference to a community college. These donors are chosen for their dedication, commitment and pride in their community college. At the annual national conference, the Benefactor Awards Banquet is the premiere showcase to recognize all of the donors amongst colleagues, families and friends.

Purpose of the Award

The CRD Benefactor Award recognizes individuals, foundations, or businesses/corporations for outstanding contributions to community colleges. The CRD Benefactor Award embodies the ideals of philanthropy, leadership, and volunteerism in the service of community, technical, and junior colleges. One recipient from each of CRD's ten regions will receive the award on behalf of that region at the gala CRD Benefactor Awards Banquet on Friday, November 5, 2010, which takes place in conjunction with the CRD Annual Conference, November 1- 6, 2010 in Washington DC .

Criteria for the Award

CRD invites you to submit your nominations for the 2010 Benefactor Awards. You must be a member of CRD in good standing in order to nominate a benefactor. For membership applications or to renew your membership, please call the national office at 202-822-0750 or e-mail Stephanie Woods at stephanie.woods@crdnet.org.

Entries will be judged and an outstanding benefactor will be selected by each of CRD's ten regions. Deadline has passed. Thank you for your nominations.

The nominee must be an individual, foundation, or business/corporation.

The nominee must have demonstrated significant financial and/or volunteer support and leadership for the community college.

The nominee will be evaluated by their region based upon the contribution and its impact on the nominating college(s).

In order to be selected, the benefactor award recipient and the nominating college personnel must be in attendance at the Benefactor Awards Banquet on Friday, November 5, 2010 . If the recipient is a foundation and or business/corporation, it is strongly recommended that a top official or senior vice president represent the company. The president should represent the college.

More than one CRD-member college may nominate the same benefactor.

Each college may submit only one nomination for consideration per year.

Winning institutions and the award recipients from last year's Benefactor Awards are not eligible for this year's awards.

You can now pay your fee online!

Deadline has passed.

Thank you for your nominations.

Past Benefactor Award Winners (doc)

We look forward to receiving YOUR nomination this year! As questions arise, please feel free to contact the CRD National Office.

Here are a few words of encouragement from some of our past winning colleges:

“Our awardees are still talking about their wonderful experience. To all, they rave about community colleges and above all our college. We couldn't buy the marketing coverage that they have generated. Our awardees have said that it was the most significant moment of their lives and will be appreciative to us forever.”

- Marilyn Appelson, then Foundation Executive Director, Oakton Community College, Des Plaines, Illinois

“Participating in the CRD Benefactor Awards competition was a wonderful experience for me, for the College and especially for our Benefactor. Even if she had not been selected as the winner from Region I, she was truly very pleased that we had nominated her and championed her nomination through the process. When she was selected, she was genuinely surprised and thrilled as were her daughter and son-in-law. This is, to paraphrase, the continuation of a beautiful relationship!”

- Annee Tara, Director of College Development, Central Maine Technical College, Auburn, Maine

“The Benefactors Award Banquet in Washington allowed us to finally really delight our donors. The combination of pomp, circumstance, and genuine warmth told them how appreciative we were of their efforts to help TMCC, and the national honor spurred good publicity in the hometown press. We struggle to find fresh ways to sincerely thank our benefactors and nothing beats having 700 cheering people gathered in a room. The Northern Nevada Dental Society realized their gift was deeply significant and part of a much larger network of philanthropy than they ever imagined. They felt VALUED.”

- Anne-Louise Bennett, former Executive Director, Foundation, and Institutional Advancement, Truckee Meadows Community College, Reno, Nevada

“The CRD Benefactor Awards Banquet was a fabulous experience and brought the benefactor and the college even closer than they had been. It was also an important way to honor our president ... and we know they don't get many purely pleasant experiences. Mostly it was another way to say thank you, at a level we cannot do on our own campus. Our donor and his family were truly honored.”

- Joy Wohl, then Foundation Executive Director, Santa Fe Community College, New Mexico
